Astrological Aspects Explained
Aspects are angular relationships between planets. They show how different parts of the chart cooperate, intensify, challenge, or redirect one another. In a chart wheel they appear as lines across the center; in Arcanafy’s 3D view they form a visible network between planetary points.
The five major aspects
A conjunction joins planets in the same region and concentrates their functions. An opposition creates polarity and calls for balance. A square produces friction and action. A trine supports natural flow, while a sextile suggests opportunity that benefits from participation.
No aspect is simply good or bad. Ease can become passive, while tension can create skill, endurance, and meaningful change.
Orb and aspect strength
An orb is the distance from the exact angle. Smaller orbs are generally read as stronger, though astrologers allow wider ranges for the Sun and Moon and vary limits by aspect.
Strength also depends on repetition, angular placement, rulership, and whether an aspect belongs to a larger pattern such as a T-square or grand trine.
Reading aspects as a dialogue
Name both planets first, then the aspect, signs, and houses. Mercury square Saturn, for example, is not a single verdict: it can describe disciplined thought, cautious speech, self-criticism, or the need to build confidence through practice.
The most useful interpretation holds both sides of the relationship and looks for constructive ways they can work together.
